Charity Race Nights
In order to make as much money as possible for charity, sponsors may be found for each of the races. Sponsors pay to have the race named after them e.g. The Joe Bloggs Stakes, The Bill Smith Handicap. If you could find a sponsor for each race at £25 per race, you would of course pay for the cost of the whole race night. In return sponsors can advertise and/or be mentioned at the event.
It is also a good idea to sell the horses for a set fee. We supply an A3 poster for you to fill in to display the names of sponsors and owners if required.
On the evening a small prize – e.g. a bottle of wine can be awarded to the winning owner of each race.
Everything above will take place before the night of the races, the rest of the money is made on the night.
A minimum bet is decided upon. The customers bet on as many horses as they wish in each race. After each race is run, the tote money is divided into two, half of which goes to your charity and other half is divided evenly amongst the winners of the race, according to their original stake. This is done for each of the 8 races. Likewise the ‘pot’ for the owners of the 8 horses will be divided up the same way – so the winner gets back half and the rest goes to charity.
Auction
When you have a charity race night, it is a good idea to sell the horses in the last race by auction on the night. The payout however still works the same way, even though the owners may have paid different amounts for each horse.
Should you decide to do this only sell 7 races on the poster – the 8th race is sold on the night!!
